Michelle teaches journalism and mass communications in the form of yearbook and TV Broadcasting, as well as film and digital arts at Coronado High School in California at the specialized school within the high school called Coronado School of the Arts.

She started her teaching career in Minnesota in English and has experience with grades 8-12 in Advanced Placement Lit and Advanced Placement Lang, and newspaper.

Michelle acts as a mentor to new teachers and is a certified journalism educator through Journalism Education Association, which means she has lots of resources for collaboration and exchange with journalism advisers all over the country. She is a former Fellow with the ASNE Reynolds Program at the Walter Cronkite School of Mass Communications, and she is a member of the Society of Professional Journalists - San Diego Chapter as well as the National Scholastic Press Association and Columbia Scholastic Press Association.

About

Michelle Evenson is a teacher, journalist, photographer, writer and lawyer.

She was born and raised in the north suburban area of Minneapolis, Minnesota, attended St. Cloud State University, and has degrees in theater, mass communications, and secondary education. Michelle is licensed to practice law in CA and MN.

 

Before becoming a teacher she worked a professional dancer, a videographer/camera operator for a video yearbook company, and a costume assistant for commercial shoots in Minneapolis. She has also worked as a theater director, choreographer, and actor and she was a competitive dance coach for 10 years. Michelle also worked for San Diego Junior Theater doing outreach to local elementary schools.
